Hosting is the virtual space on the Internet where your website resides. Specifically, it's disk space on a server (a high capacity computer that 'serves' web pages to your browser when you type in a web address) that holds your web pages for the world to see.

Your domain name (i.e., mishagos.com) is like a phone number. It's what people "call" by typing it in to their browser. Like a phone number needs an actual phone that someone can answer, the hosting is the end point of your request to see a web page.

Without hosting, just like a telephone, you can call but no one's going to pick up.
